Founded in 1994 by Fred J. Johnson, Jr., Benny Jones, Sr., and Gregory
Stafford, the Black Men of Labor, Inc. was established to honor the legacy and labor of African American me, recognizing their vital contributions to the workplace and to the cultural fabric of New Orleans.

With a mission rooted in cultural preservation, the organization also champions Traditional Jazz Music as a living art form and a cornerstone of African American heritage. In 1994, the group held its inaugural parade to pay tribute to legendary jazz musician Danny Barker, whose
influence continues to inspire generations.

Since its founding, the Black Men of Labor has grown into a dynamic force for community empowerment. Today, it operates as a designated IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a certified U.S. Department of Treasury Community Development Enterprise committed to advancing cultural pride, economic opportunity, and social justice throughout New Orleans.
